About the Author

me and murphy 2Humor columnist and award-winning freelance writer Joanne Brokaw spends her days dreaming of things she’d like to do but probably never will – like swimming with dolphins, cleaning the attic, and someday overcoming the trauma of elementary school picture day.

She’s spent the majority of her professional writing career covering entertainment, freelancing and penning columns for dozens of Christian and community newspapers, magazines and websites in the U.S. and Canada. Her extensive writing resume Christian Examiner newspapers, Patheos.com, American Greetings, Beliefnet.com, Christian Voice Magazine, Brio Magazine, Breakaway Magazine, BuddyHollywood.com, WreckedForTheOrdinary.com, ByLine Magazine, Fido Friendly blog, and Pup Culture Magazine.

She’s earned three Evangelical Press Association awards – most recently a 2015 First Place Higher Goals Award in the Humor category, and Best Blog of 2010 for her Gospel Soundcheck blog at Beliefnet.com, which was cited by national media outlets including ABCNews.com, The LA Times, and MTV.com. She’s also the recipient of an Excellence in Writing Award from the Ozarks Christian News.

A collection of her humor columns, What The Dog Said, was published in 2013 by Wordcrafts Press. The book includes reader favorites culled from hundreds of columns penned over several years, as well as one new piece about the death of her dog, Scout. A portion of the royalties from the sale of the book benefit local animal causes.

Joanne is working in her next book and pens a humor column for the San Diego-based inspirational Refreshed Magazine. She lives in Western NY with two dogs, a cat, some chickens, an army of dust bunnies and one very patient husband. Visit her online at www.joannebrokaw.com.
