Ethel and Abby, the neighbor's dog

The chicken coop is right on the property line in the backyard, so on the other side of the chicken wire is our neighbor, Dave, and his dog Abby.

Abby is a great dog. She’s sweet and gets along well with Bandit and Scout, albiet through the fence.

Dave the neighbor was a little worried about Abby and the chickens, that she might tear down the wire or get at the birds. I wasn’t worried. My David built this coop and run like Fort Knox.

But Abby loves to sit at the fence, nose pressed to the wire, and smell the hens. Smell them, chase them, and occasionally bark at them. For their part, the girls just ignore her. They’re used to her being there and don’t shy away from that side of the run or get flustered when she’s around.

But don’t trust me. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words:
