Now that the chickens are laying – well, Mrs Wiggins and Aunt Bea are, anyway – David spent the afternoon yesterday making upgrades to the nesting boxes.
Here’s the new set up, which includes new roosting perches as well:
David was a little disappointed because the girls went in and checked out the perches but didn’t get on. I told him not to worry. They’re goofy chickens and it’s a big change. And sure enough, this morning there were chickens on the top perch and chickens on the low perch, and it looked like a chicken tree in the corner.
Mrs. Wiggins got up in the new box and laid an egg this morning, and I can tell the other girls have been at least sitting in the boxes and feeling them out. Including under the newest box. Someone likes to hide.
